Atlantic Spirit

Gin Distillery Visit

RATING   5⭐️ plus

  • Well this isn’t a usual tour, this micro craft distillery doesn’t currently do generic public tours, except for tastings with bars and corporates, so as a member of their fan club after being introduced to them by Sip&share.
The stills – Forgot to ask the names ??

I was delighted that they invited me to visit their new distillery in Devon during my latest holiday ( after a bit of social media stalking!).

The Distillery

It’s a true family affair. Atlantic Spirit distillery is nestled in the corner of the family grounds, in a beautiful purpose wooden building, housing the distillery the office and labelling etc.

I was extremely lucky to find them in the middle of a new batch, so got to watch them at work  and the smell inside the distillery was just out of this world.

Corse flowers fermenting for flavour

Two beautiful 30l copper stills sit pride of place as you walk in the door, with a small still by their side ( this one is only used for one of the range, so that keeps the flavour pure).

The stills run nearly every day, creating the small batches based on the demand, the season and what they have been picking that week ! Good job they installed all solar panels’ the price of electric.

Sadie and Quintin shared with us their story and their dream for the future. The passion and effort that they put into each bottle speaks for itself. Sadie working full time while Quinton part time, they are certainly keeping themselves busy.

What a lovely pair ( the people not the stills)

They take pride in using only premium sourced botanicals, most of which they forage for themselves, and Tarka Springs water collected a few miles away from the distillery. So when they say you have a taste of Devon in each bottle, they really mean it.

The Bottle

I loved that the same ethos goes into the bottle and its design.  The bottle artwork is from two local artists.

The range – 6 beautiful bottles lining up

The Taste

Very kindly we were given samples of  all 6 of their range, starting from the sweetest to the savoury.  Number  7 is Quintins way of trying new things, so often, number 7 is a very small limited edition – like Sea Buckthorn & Pineapple Weed ( ive joined the wating this for this!

We left with two bottles, making my collection now three,  and can’t wait to open and share a review on my books_gin_beautiful_things

These gins are works of art

In summary, meeting the guys was like meeting old friends, so welcoming, open and interesting. We had lots to talk about, and discovered some family connections . I’m in awe of what they have achieved and how hard they work to towards their future. They are living in a beautiful part of the work, making beautiful gin, and by the looks on their faces, its hard work but they are enjoying every second of it – and we all benefit.
